This is the Hook Horror in full battle cry — a massive, chitin-armoured predator rearing up with its serrated hook-claws spread wide and its fanged maw thrown open in a territorial roar. The sculpt captures the creature mid-charge from the front: you can see the layered chitinous shell across its back, the ribbed segmented body, and the powerful digitigrade legs braced to lunge. The great scythe-claws — each one ridged and barbed along the inner edge — are extended outward in a threat display that would send any sensible party scrambling for the exit. The tail arcs up and back with a serrated fin, adding to the creature's imposing silhouette.
From the rear angle the segmented carapace is displayed to full effect — the hexagonal shell plates are cleanly sculpted with crisp panel lines, and the musculature of the haunches shows real texture beneath the hide. This is a large-footprint mini on a 51mm oval base, making it immediately table-ready as a Large creature encounter and visually dominant on any gaming surface.
Whether you're running a classic Underdark delve, a lost dwarven mine overrun with territorial predators, or simply want a striking centrepiece beast for your display shelf, this sculpt delivers the menace and presence the Hook Horror deserves.
Particularly well-suited to adventurers who:
- Run Underdark campaigns featuring cavern predators and territorial beasts
- Want a Large-base creature that reads instantly and dramatically on the table
- Are painting a classic monster collection and need the Hook Horror done right
- Enjoy display painting — the carapace and claw detail reward careful highlighting
Encounter Hook: The party has been following the sound of rhythmic booming through a network of caverns — a sound the dwarven guide warned them never to imitate. As they round a tunnel bend, two Hook Horrors are fighting over territory directly ahead, their claws locked and their screams filling the passage. The party must slip past unnoticed, intervene, or wait — before the winner turns its attention to the new arrivals.
