The Hook Horror is one of the Underdark's most immediately recognisable horrors: a hulking, bipedal creature with a vulture-like beak, hollow eyes, and forearms that end not in hands but in long, serrated bone hooks. This sculpt by Monster Atlas captures every detail that makes the Hook Horror so unsettling — the thick, rippling musculature across its deep violet-hued body, the ridge of dorsal spines running down its back, the clawed digitigrade feet planted wide in an aggressive stance, and those massive curved hooks spreading outward as if bracing for the lunge. The beak hangs open mid-screech, and the pale, hollow gaze suggests it has already located the party long before they've noticed it.

Dungeon Masters running Underdark campaigns — whether navigating the tunnels beneath a fallen dwarven hold, descending into a drow-controlled network, or running a classic dungeon crawl — will find this miniature brings genuine menace to the encounter mat. It works equally well as a wandering monster, a territorial pack leader, or the centrepiece of a lower-level boss fight. Equally at home on a display shelf for collectors who appreciate well-sculpted aberrations alongside their painted adventurers.

Well suited for adventurers who:

  • Run Underdark-heavy D&D 5e or OSR campaigns
  • Want a distinctive aberration mini that reads clearly at the table
  • Collect or paint monster miniatures for display
  • Are building a Hook Horror encounter, lair, or hunting pack

Encounter Hook:
Three sessions ago the miners reported strange gouges in the lower shafts — long, parallel slashes too high for a bear and too clean for a pickaxe. Tonight, mid-long rest, one of the party's torches gutters out and from the darkness comes a sharp, resonant click-click-click echoing off stone from two directions at once.

Details

Supplied at 32mm scale. The miniature and base are separate pieces, best attached with superglue — the sculpt is designed to interact with its base, so we recommend using it. Printed in high-quality resin with supports removed; minor surface marks may occasionally be present and are easily cleaned up before priming.
