The Hook Horror is one of the Underdark's most recognisable predators: a hulking, bipedal nightmare that combines the hollow-eyed skull of a great bird with the armoured bulk of something ancient and unyielding. Rows of bony spines ridge its back, thick scales armour its legs and torso, and where hands should be, a pair of enormous curved hooks extend with predatory purpose. This bundle includes both sculpts from Novaminis' Hook Horror range — pose 01 captures the creature in a low, hunched prowl, one hook extended forward as it tracks prey through the dark; pose 02 presents a more aggressive stance, upright and confrontational, hooks spread wide as it moves in for the kill.
Together, the two poses give Dungeon Masters a full pack encounter or the chance to differentiate individual creatures within the same lair. Each sculpt showcases the detailed surface work Novaminis is known for — overlapping scale plates on the lower limbs, deeply textured skin across the torso, and the distinctive avian skull rendered with genuine menace. Whether leading a patrol through a fungal cavern or guarding a kuo-toa shrine, these two bring real presence to the table. Both work equally well as display pieces for collectors who appreciate a well-realised Underdark creature.
A worthwhile addition for adventurers who:
- Need a credible, lore-accurate Hook Horror encounter for an Underdark arc
- Want to populate a cave system with varied creature poses rather than identical sculpts
- Are building an Underdark-themed display or monster collection
- Enjoy painting heavily textured creature miniatures with lots of surface detail to work with
Encounter Hook:
The party descends into the fungal galleries beneath the duergar settlement, following the trail of a missing scouting party — only to find drag marks in the phosphorescent moss leading toward a low passage, and somewhere ahead, the rhythmic click-click-click of two creatures communicating in the dark.
This bundle includes both Hook Horror 01 and Hook Horror 02 — two distinct sculpts at a saving over individual pricing. Both are scaled to 32mm. Supplied unpainted and ready for priming. Minor support marks may occasionally be present and are easily tidied up before painting.
