This is pose 2 of our Hobgoblin Spearman range by Novaminis, and it captures something the first pose doesn't: momentum. The hobgoblin is caught mid-lunge, spear driven out at a low, threatening angle while the studded round shield is pulled tight to the body — a soldier who's closed distance before and knows exactly what he's doing. The riveted half-armour, engraved belt, layered tassets, and bucket-style visored helm all speak to a military culture that values function and rank in equal measure. The sculpt rewards careful painters — there's texture in every layer of kit, from the wraps on the spear shaft to the scored surface of the shield boss.
Hobgoblins in D&D 5e are Lawful Evil humanoids built around martial hierarchy and the doctrine of Maglubiyet. They don't raid — they campaign. A warband carrying this figure on the table signals to your players that they're not dealing with disorganised monsters but a cohesive fighting force with flanking tactics, shield walls, and a chain of command that won't break easily.
Well suited to adventurers who:
- Need rank-and-file hobgoblin soldiers for large-scale battle encounters
- Are building a goblinoid military faction with visual variety across poses
- Want a single characterful enemy NPC that reads as battle-hardened from across the table
- Enjoy painting layered armour, leather wraps, and worn military equipment
- Collect display pieces that hold their own without paint
Encounter Hook:
The party scouts report that the hobgoblin vanguard has stopped half a mile from the city gates — not to make camp, but to drill. By firelight, one soldier runs the others through spear thrusts in tight, rhythmic unison. When the captain spots the adventurers watching from the treeline, he doesn't raise the alarm. He just points the spear at them and smiles.
Details
Supplied at 32mm scale. Available with or without a plain black round base — the base ships unattached and can be secured with a small amount of glue. Each miniature is printed to a high standard; supports are removed before dispatch, though minor marks from the printing process can occasionally occur and are easily tidied up before priming.
