This hobgoblin isn't on the warpath — he's on his fourth drink. Arms flung wide, a battered tankard raised triumphantly in one fist and a second clutched tight in the other, this brawny, muscle-bound reveller captures a very specific and very dangerous hobgoblin energy: the moment just before everything goes badly wrong in a tavern. His expression is pure aggression teetering on the edge of celebration — mouth open, teeth bared, clearly mid-roar of something between a toast and a war cry.
The sculpt from Epic Miniatures is rich with character detail. A broad studded belt sits beneath layered armour panels, decorative pauldrons frame his hulking shoulders, and greaves protect his thick legs — but the flourishes of tooled leather and engraved metal suggest this isn't a common grunt. This hobgoblin has status. He just also happens to be absolutely hammered. The pose, with both arms thrown outward and the off-balance swagger of a creature who genuinely believes he's won the night, makes for a dynamic centrepiece to any tavern brawl scene.
Whether he's a recurring NPC the party keeps running into in the wrong establishments, a bouncer who's sampled too much of the stock, or simply a wandering mercenary in full celebration mode, this mini brings enormous personality to the table. Painters will relish the combination of detailed armour work, expressive face, and the storytelling potential of those two raised tankards.
Particularly well suited to adventurers who:
- Run tavern encounter scenes and need NPCs with genuine personality
- Want a hobgoblin mini that tells a story without saying a word
- Are building out goblinoid warband rosters with varied character types
- Love painting expressive faces and dynamic, off-balance poses
- Need a memorable recurring NPC who always turns up in the wrong place
Encounter Hook: The party enters the Cracked Flagon looking for information about the missing merchant — only to find a hobgoblin mercenary standing on a table, both tankards raised, loudly challenging everyone present to a drinking contest. He's the one they need to talk to. He is also, unmistakably, already winning the contest.
