The Headless Horsewoman is one of those miniatures that stops people mid-conversation at the gaming table. The sculpt captures a fully armoured female rider — plate-covered and cloaked, carrying a long blade — seated atop a powerful, heavily-maned horse mid-stride. Where a head should be, there is only the jagged, crowned edge of her pauldron and collar, the absence itself becoming the most arresting feature of the piece. The horse is beautifully detailed: a thick flowing mane, heavy feathered hooves, and a bridle hung with what appear to be carved bone fetishes. The base features scattered skulls and fragments of rubble, grounding this eerie rider in the kind of forsaken landscape she haunts.

This is a multipart model assembled and finished by us before it reaches you. You have a choice of base: a decorative scenic base that integrates the skulls and broken ground you see in the render, a plain base for those who prefer a clean surface to work from, or no base at all if you have your own basing plans in mind. Whichever you choose, the miniature arrives assembled and ready to prime.

As a painting project, this sculpt rewards patience. The horse alone offers exceptional texture across the mane, tail, and musculature, while the rider's armour has just enough surface relief — scale sections, straps, and engraved detail — to respond beautifully to a zenithal prime and contrast-based approach. The headless silhouette is dramatic even before a single brushstroke is applied.

Particularly well-suited to adventurers who:

  • Run Ravenloft, Curse of Strahd, or gothic horror campaigns and need a mounted horror encounter that feels genuinely unsettling
  • Want a centrepiece model for a Halloween or seasonal session with real presence on the table
  • Play or DM a Shadowfell-adjacent campaign where spectral or cursed warriors make regular appearances
  • Are looking for a display piece with a strong, immediately readable silhouette for the painting shelf

Encounter Hook

The village of Ashenmere has not seen daylight in three weeks. Every evening, precisely at the tolling of the cracked bell tower, a rider in black armour circles the perimeter — silent, relentless, and terribly wrong about the neck. The party has been hired to break whatever curse anchors her to this road. The trouble is, every time they get close, the horse turns to face them without being steered, and the rider raises her blade without a head to aim with.
