Hay Bales by Mia Kay M3DM

Hay bales are the unsung heroes of the tabletop scatter terrain world. Whether you're staging a desperate ambush in a moonlit farmyard, dressing a rural market scene with convincing detail, or giving your players something solid to duck behind when the crossbow bolts start flying, these rope-bound bales bring an immediate sense of lived-in place to any encounter. The sculpt captures the rough texture of compressed straw with tight rope binding wrapped around each bale — the kind of agricultural detail that makes a scene feel real rather than dressed.
This set includes five bales in a mix of sizes — two stacked tall, one medium, and two single flat — giving you flexible arrangements for tavern stables, storage rooms, countryside ambushes, or market square showdowns. Equally at home on a painted diorama shelf as they are in the middle of an encounter.
Perfect for adventurers who:
- Need believable scatter terrain for farm, village, or wilderness encounters
- Want to give players tactical cover options that feel grounded in the world
- Are building dioramas or display scenes with a rural or low-fantasy aesthetic
- Like their battle maps to tell a story before a single die is rolled
Encounter Hook:
The party has been hired to investigate a series of disappearances from a farming hamlet. On the third night of their watch, a figure bolts from the barn — weaving between stacked bales to reach the treeline. The hay bales are difficult terrain, and at least one of them is about to catch fire.
This set is scaled to 32mm and arrives ready for priming and painting, or use straight from the box for unpainted terrain play. Sculpted with excellent surface detail that takes washes and drybrushing particularly well.
