This is pose 1 of the Harpy Male Brute range from Novaminis, and it makes an immediate impression. Where the classic harpy relies on its song to entangle victims, this brute has dispensed with such subtleties. He stands broad-chested and confrontational, wings fully outstretched to their full intimidating span, taloned feet planted, and both clawed hands raised — one clutching a vicious hooked blade, the other raking the air. His expression is open-mouthed rage, and the studded leather armour across his torso hints at a creature that knows it might take a hit or two, but doesn't particularly care. Braided hair and bone or bead adornments complete the look of a territorial alpha, not a mindless beast.
The sculpt captures every individual feather across those enormous wings, giving painters a tremendous amount of surface detail to work with — from base-coating the dark underfeathers to edge-highlighting the primary plumes. As a tabletop encounter piece, he commands the space on the mat, and as a display piece he draws the eye from across the room.
Well suited to adventurers who:
- Need a harpy encounter that reads as a genuine physical threat, not just a charm effect
- Are building a mountain pass, clifftop aerie, or coastal ambush encounter
- Want a centrepiece winged monster that doubles as a striking display piece
- Are painting a warband of harpies and need a clear brute/alpha to lead them
Encounter Hook:
The mountain pass was supposed to be clear — the scouts said so. But the scouts didn't come back, and now the party can see why: three sets of claw marks scored deep into the cliff face at head height, and a single braided feather wedged into the rock. Something large has been pacing this ledge for days, waiting. When it finally drops from the overhang with wings cracking open like a thunderclap, the ranger has just enough time to shout a warning before those claws find their first target.
