This is no ordinary cave dressing. The Hag's Pantry of Horrors is a multilevel carved-rock shelving unit packed with narrative detail: ceramic pots and cylindrical jars on the upper tiers, a small rat rummaging amongst the crockery, a crumbling tome wedged into one alcove, and — on the lowest shelf — a scattered pile of bones and a skull that suggests previous visitors did not leave voluntarily. Stalactites creep over the top edge, and two rough-hewn boulders flank the piece, grounding it in a subterranean or swamp-cavern setting. Every surface is textured with the kind of organic, eroded stonework that rewards a close paint job.
As a piece of scatter terrain rather than a character mini, this works hardest as an environmental storytelling prop. Place it in a hag's lair, an alchemist's forgotten hideout, a druidic ruin, or anywhere your DM brain needs the table to lean forward and ask questions. It reads instantly — and that's exactly what good scatter terrain should do. Equally at home on a display shelf as it is on the gaming table.
Well-suited to adventurers who:
- Run hag encounters, Feywild arcs, or dark fairy-tale campaigns
- Want scatter terrain that carries its own backstory without explanation
- Are building a swamp witch's lair, cavern dungeon, or cursed woodland set
- Enjoy detailed painting projects with varied surfaces and textures
- Collect atmospheric display pieces alongside their miniatures
Encounter Hook:
The players locate the hag's cave while she is absent — and on the lowest shelf, half-hidden beneath a femur, they find a locket belonging to the missing child they were hired to find. The jars above it are labelled in a language none of them speak. The rat watches from the top shelf and does not run.
