Few miniatures command a table quite like a seated, sovereign Death. This sculpt depicts a robed skeletal figure at rest upon a throne bristling with long, blade-like spines — the kind of seat that suggests its occupant has all the time in the world, because time is quite literally theirs to control. One skeletal hand grips a great curved scythe with an ornate, barbed haft; the other cradles an hourglass, its sands perpetually falling. A second skeleton perches atop the throne back, resting its skull upon one hand in a posture of bored, eternal patience. Scattered skulls and vertebrae adorn the throne's base, and the entire composition radiates the quiet menace of something that does not need to hurry.
The detail throughout is sharp and confident — the layered folds of the cowled robe, the delicate articulation of the finger bones, the sweeping curves of the scythe blade, the relief work on the throne's stone plinth. The back of the throne is equally considered, with a skull-faced relief carved into the stone behind a cascade of jagged projections. This is a miniature that rewards careful painting from every angle.
Whether you run this as the Raven Queen's herald, a Shadowfell archlich holding court, a Death domain deity made manifest, or simply the most intimidating encounter card you've ever placed on the table, this sculpt brings genuine weight and atmosphere to the moment.
Particularly well-suited for adventurers who:
- Need a visually arresting BBEG for a death-themed campaign finale
- Are building a Shadowfell or Ravenloft setting and want a centrepiece encounter
- Want a centrepiece display piece that doubles as a tabletop encounter model
- Play a Necromancer or Death Cleric and want to hint at who they ultimately answer to
- Appreciate sculpts with strong silhouettes and rich texture on every surface
Encounter Hook
The party enters the Hall of Final Reckoning expecting an empty throne room. Instead, the Reaper is in residence — hourglass raised, its sand almost spent. "I have been watching your thread," it rasps, without turning. "It is… shorter than I expected." Roll initiative — and pray someone brought a means of extending life.
