Few things set a scene quite like a graveyard done properly. This collection of scatter terrain pieces from Atlanticus Arts covers every corner of a well-worn burial ground — from grand, ornate headstones with Gothic arched niches and scrollwork detail, to a weathered stone cross, a recumbent sarcophagus carved with the likeness of the interred, and a crumbling column stump barely rising above the earth. Every piece carries the weight of age: cracked stone, clinging roots, iron-rust staining, and surfaces worn smooth by decades of wind and rain.
The sculpts vary in scale and grandeur, allowing you to build a graveyard with genuine depth and storytelling. A few of the larger markers — the arched niche stone, the elaborate framed headstone — speak to a wealthier district or a temple burial ground. The smaller, broken and eroded pieces suggest neglect, or perhaps something worse. Together they create an environment with real visual hierarchy, giving your players a graveyard they can actually navigate, hide behind, and dread.
These pieces are equally at home as a gothic horror encounter space, a quiet investigation scene, or a diorama backdrop. Dry-brushing alone brings the marble-effect stonework to life, and ink washes will deepen every crack and crevice beautifully. Advanced painters will find plenty of fine detail to reward the effort.
These terrain pieces work especially well for adventurers who:
- Run gothic horror campaigns in Ravenloft or similarly haunted settings
- Need atmosphere-first scatter terrain that rewards painters of any experience level
- Want to build a graveyard encounter map with genuine variety and visual depth
- Collect narrative diorama pieces for display shelves or painted scene photography
Encounter Hook: The party is tasked with recovering a stolen funeral urn before dawn — but as they enter the fog-thick cemetery, the grave markers begin to shift and resettle, as though something beneath is making room. Between the cracked cross and the sarcophagus lid, fresh earth has been disturbed. The urn was never stolen. It was left here as an offering.
