Description

He was there before the funeral, and he will be there long after — leaning on that shovel, watching, waiting, with a smile that knows far too much about what lies beneath the earth.

  • ✔ Supplied unpainted and ready to prime
  • ✔ Compatible with D&D, Pathfinder, and all tabletop RPGs
  • ✔ Equally at home on the gaming table or the display shelf

There is something deeply unsettling about a man who loves his work. This grave digger cuts a striking silhouette — tall and gaunt, dressed in tattered, layered garments with a wide belt and worn leather boots, topped with a battered high hat that sits just slightly askew. He leans his full weight on a long-handled ceremonial shovel, the blade of which is planted firmly in a small mound of earth on the scenic base, a skull half-buried beneath it. His free hand hangs open at his side, fingers curled with an almost predatory looseness, and his face — gaunt, hollow-eyed, and deeply weathered — carries an expression that sits somewhere between courtesy and menace.

The sculpt rewards a painter's attention. The layered fabric of his clothing offers real texture variety, from the coarse weave of his outer vest to the finer pinstripe of his trousers. A badge or medallion sits at his chest, and he wears an additional holstered pistol at his hip, hinting at a man who has learned that not everything that climbs out of the ground stays down through shovelling alone. The decorative base — with its skull and loose earth — gives the piece immediate narrative weight straight out of the box.

Whether you're running a gothic horror campaign, a Ravenloft session, or a gritty frontier town with suspicious graveyards, this miniature brings immediate character to the table. He works equally well as a morally grey NPC, a sinister cult contact, or even a necromancer who maintains a charming day job as cover.

This miniature is well suited to adventurers who:

  • Are running Ravenloft, gothic horror, or dark urban campaigns
  • Need a charismatic but deeply untrustworthy NPC gravedigger or undertaker
  • Want a Necromancer or Warlock character with a dark aesthetic for player use
  • Enjoy painting character pieces with rich fabric and leather detail
  • Are building out a graveyard or crypt encounter scene for display or gaming

Encounter Hook

The party arrives at the cemetery at dusk to exhume a recently buried witness. He's already there, leaning on his shovel by the grave in question, watching them approach with an unhurried smile. "Looking for someone?" he asks, before glancing down at the freshly turned earth. "Shame. You're about three hours late. Something came for him first." He tips his hat — and the ground around the grave begins to shift.
