Giff Warrior 02 by Novaminis

Somewhere between the Astral Sea and the next contract, a Giff warrior rolls his shoulders, steadies his twin blades, and decides the negotiation is over.

The Giff are one of the most distinctive creatures to stride out of Spelljammer lore — hippo-headed mercenaries with a no-nonsense attitude, a love of military discipline, and an unsettling enthusiasm for combat. This second warrior variant captures a different facet of that character: where some Giff posture and bellow, this one carries himself with a quieter, coiled confidence. One hand clenches at his side, the other grips a heavy cleaver-style blade at the ready — a warrior who has done this before and isn't in a hurry.

The sculpt showcases Novaminis' eye for layered, textured detail. The torso armour is covered in scrolling engravings across segmented plates, cinched by a wide ornate belt. A chainmail skirt hangs below, each link rendered cleanly, and heavy laced boots ground the figure with a sense of weight and solidity. Spiked knuckle guards on the off-hand hint at close-quarters pragmatism. The pose — measured, squared up, not yet committed — makes this a particularly versatile miniature: threatening without being melodramatic.

As the second variation in the Giff Warrior line, this sculpt is a natural companion piece to the first. Together they give Dungeon Masters a pair of distinct individuals rather than a repeated pose — useful when fielding a squad of mercenaries or distinguishing named Giff characters at the table.

This miniature works well for adventurers who:

• Are running Spelljammer or Planescape campaigns featuring Giff mercenary crews
• Need a distinctive non-humanoid warrior as a hireling, rival, or named NPC
• Want to build out an exotic mercenary company with varied sculpts
• Enjoy painting intricate armour detail — the engraved plates and chainmail reward careful brushwork
• Are collecting both Giff Warrior variants as a matched pair for display

Encounter Hook

The party's new Giff contact meets them at the docking ring of a spelljamming galleon, twin blades already drawn — not out of aggression, but habit. He wants to know if they're serious hires before he sheathes them. The next ten minutes of roleplay will determine whether the crew of the Iron Cradle becomes allies or obstacles.
