Giff Warrior 01 by Novaminis

The Giff are one of the most distinctive creatures in Spelljammer lore — hulking, hippopotamus-headed humanoids with a well-earned reputation for physical power, military discipline, and a love of loud, explosive violence. This particular warrior embodies all of that in a single dynamic pose. He's captured mid-swing, greataxe hauled back over one shoulder in a wide overhead arc, mouth open in a battle cry that you can almost hear from across the table. His other arm is thrown wide for balance and momentum, giving the sculpt a real sense of kinetic force — like the axe is about to come down on something that richly deserves it.

The detail work on this sculpt rewards a close look. His breastplate is covered in an embossed sunburst motif, studded at the edges and secured with a wide belt at the waist — the kind of worn, practical armour that's been through a few campaigns. Sturdy laced boots, spiked wrist guards, and the hippo-head anatomy — broad snout, small ears, deep-set eyes — are all rendered with specificity rather than caricature. This is a Giff that looks like it belongs in a serious encounter, not comic relief. This is Variation 01 of the Giff Warrior range, featuring the greataxe pose — worth noting if you're building out a Giff unit alongside other variants.

Suits adventurers who:

• Are running a Spelljammer campaign and need Giff mercenaries or crew members
• Want a powerful, characterful melee fighter for planar or wildspace encounters
• Need a visually distinctive NPC bodyguard, enforcer, or hired blade
• Collect Novaminis sculpts for the quality of the creature characterisation
• Paint display miniatures and want a dynamic mid-action pose with strong detail

Encounter Hook: The party's ship docks at the Rock of Bral and they're immediately approached by a Giff sergeant named Brumgash — built like a small siege engine, axe resting on his shoulder, offering his services at rates that seem almost reasonable. The catch? He works alone, he doesn't ask questions, and there's a warrant out for him on two different planes. Do they hire him? And what exactly did he do to earn that warrant?
