Description

The scratching in the walls has grown louder every night, and last evening something large enough to cast a shadow slipped beneath the cellar door.

  • ✔ 32mm scale resin miniature, printed fresh to order in the UK
  • ✔ Supplied unpainted and ready to prime
  • ✔ Compatible with D&D, Pathfinder, and all tabletop RPGs
  • ✔ Equally at home on the gaming table or the display shelf

Few creatures unsettle a low-level party quite like a giant rat — and these two sculpts by Mia Kay M3DM capture exactly why. The first depicts a hunched, snarling rat in a stalking pose, fur raised along its haunches, coiled tail sweeping the base, every sinew taut with predatory intent. The second is its diseased counterpart: a heavily afflicted beast, its hide crusted with suppurating wounds and bony protrusions, jaw thrown wide in a guttural snarl, skulking across a base littered with bone shards and jagged spikes. Together they cover the full spectrum of the Giant Rat stat block — from the straightforward bite attack to something that warrants a Constitution saving throw.

Whether you're running a Waterdeep sewer crawl, stocking a Wererats' den in Ravenloft, populating a forgotten dungeon with disease-carrying vermin, or building out an Underdark encounter that starts small and escalates fast, these two miniatures earn their place on the table. Both hold up equally well as display pieces — the sculpt detail on the diseased variant in particular rewards careful painting, with recessed wounds and raised quills that respond beautifully to a wash.

Well suited to adventurers who:

  • Run dungeon, sewer, or urban underbelly encounters and want convincing low-CR beasts
  • Need a disease-afflicted creature to signal genuine biological threat at the table
  • Are building a Wererat or Ratfolk encounter with thematic backing minis
  • Paint and collect creature sculpts with strong surface texture and expressive character

Encounter Hook:
The party is hired to investigate a rash of disappearances in the tannery district. The trail leads to a flooded basement where six giant rats have been feeding — but the largest among them, bloated and covered in blackened sores, barely registers the torchlight. The apothecary's notes pinned to the wall suggest someone has been deliberately cultivating something. The question is whether the rats are the experiment, or the delivery mechanism.

Details

This listing includes both sculpts: the standard giant rat and the diseased variant. Both are printed at 32mm scale. The standard rat comes pre-attached to its base as a single piece; the diseased variant's base can be detached and reattached with a small amount of adhesive, giving you flexibility for custom basing. Both are supplied unpainted and ready for priming. Supports are removed as standard — as with any hand-finished piece, minor marks may occasionally be present and are easily tidied up before painting.
