The Ghoul Gravecaller is a deeply unsettling figure — ancient, hunched, and utterly contemptuous of the living. He clutches a humanoid skull in one clawed hand, raising it with an air of dark reverence, his expression a grimace that sits somewhere between ecstasy and malice. Long, lank hair frames a gaunt feral face with pronounced fangs and pointed ears, suggesting something that was once humanoid but has long since surrendered to the hunger. His flowing robes are ragged at the hem, and his belt and sash are adorned with strings of small bones — finger bones, knuckles, and fetish charms that rattle with every shuffling step. The back of the sculpt reveals the full detail of that bone collection, bundled and knotted across his back like a grotesque trophy sash.
This is a figure that reads as a ritual leader or a BBEG lieutenant — the kind of creature who doesn't just haunt a graveyard but actively manages it, directing lesser undead with quiet, terrible authority. The pose is dynamic without being combat-focused: he leans forward slightly, presenting the skull almost as an offering, giving the mini a ceremonial, sinister quality that works brilliantly as a necromancer NPC, a Ghast cult leader, or a unique undead warlock.
For painters, the Gravecaller rewards layered work — the flowing robes offer broad smooth surfaces for wet blending, while the bone fetishes and skull prop provide excellent textural contrast. The face, with its expressive snarl and deep-set features, is a rewarding focal point.
A compelling choice for adventurers who:
- Need a necromantic cult leader or undead ritual caster for their campaign
- Are running Ravenloft, Curse of Strahd, or a gothic horror arc
- Want a memorable BBEG lieutenant who feels truly threatening at the table
- Are building a graveyard encounter with undead hierarchies
- Enjoy painting detailed character sculpts with strong narrative presence
Encounter Hook: The party has been hired to recover a stolen relic from the Ashmourn Cemetery — but when they arrive, they find the graves already disturbed, the dead rising in orderly formation, and at the centre of it all, a hunched figure turning a skull over in his clawed hands and murmuring to it softly. The Ghoul Gravecaller doesn't acknowledge the party at first. He simply raises the skull toward them — and the skull's empty eye sockets begin to glow.
