The Gem Eater is one of those creatures that makes players sit up straight at the table. Squat but powerfully built, it hunches in a wide predatory stance, thick-clawed feet planted and arms hoisted overhead — a faceted boulder of a gemstone gripped in both hands, ready to bring down with devastating force. Its torso is a mass of wrinkled, warty hide belted at the waist with a braided band, draped with tattered cloth that speaks of some twisted culture or crude ceremony. Where a head should be, a crown of jagged bone spines bristles outward, and beneath that canopy of protrusions yawns an enormous, fanged, upward-facing maw — a mouth that clearly serves as this creature's primary sense organ as much as its weapon. A single cyclopean eye sits embedded in the chest, adding to the deeply unsettling wrongness of its anatomy.

This is a creature born from the deep places — somewhere far below the roots of any mountain, where light is a rumour and gems grow in veins through living rock. Whether it consumes the gems for sustenance, uses them as weapons, or hoards them for some alien ritual purpose is a question your players will be asking — ideally while backing towards the exit.
