This is Variation 01 of the Flying Snake from Novaminis — a dynamic sculpt caught mid-movement with broad, layered feathered wings spread wide and the serpent's body rearing upward in a sinuous S-curve. The head is angled forward, jaws slightly open, conveying the focused menace of a creature that doesn't waste a single movement. The wing feathering is rendered with impressive detail, each primary and secondary feather individually sculpted along both wings. The underbelly scales transition neatly into the smooth coils of the lower body, which sweeps down to a simple integral base. From the front, the composition reads as a creature about to launch itself at its target; from the side, the silhouette is graceful and genuinely serpentine despite the avian appendages.
Flying snakes in D&D are beloved for the sheer variety of roles they fill at the table. As a Druid's Wild Shape, a Warlock's familiar, an exotic pet belonging to a yuan-ti high priest, or simply a swarm of territorial predators guarding a jungle ruin — they appear across biomes and CR ranges alike. This sculpt is detailed enough to stand out on any encounter grid while remaining versatile enough to represent anything from a single named familiar to one of a pair hunting in tandem.
A good pick for adventurers who:
- Need a flying serpent familiar or companion miniature for a Warlock or Wizard
- Are running a jungle, forest, or swamp encounter that calls for airborne threats
- Want a yuan-ti retinue piece that reads as both exotic and dangerous
- Are building a bestiary display collection and want a distinctive winged beast
- Play a Druid and want a miniature that captures the Wild Shape experience
Encounter Hook: The party has been tracking a yuan-ti cult into the deep canopy when the scout goes silent. Moments later, three flying snakes descend from the branches — not attacking, just circling. Someone above is watching, using them as eyes. The question is whether the cult knows the party is here, or whether the snakes have simply been sent to find out.
