This is variation 01 of the Fisherman series from Novaminis — a grizzled, barefoot old salt captured mid-gesture with both arms raised, as though spinning a yarn or warding someone off the pier. He wears a wide-brimmed hat and a loose linen shirt, with a woven wicker basket slung across his body on a shoulder strap. His long beard and weathered features give him real character, and the detail on his clothing — stitched trouser seams, the tightly woven basket texture — rewards a careful paint job.
The open-handed, expressive pose makes this sculpt versatile: he could be a harbour informant gesturing wildly about what he saw last night, a local guide warning the party away from the cove, or simply a townsperson going about his morning with a basket of the day's catch. He fits naturally into coastal villages, fishing settlements, river towns, and any campaign that involves a waterfront or working community.
This is one of several Fisherman variants — if you're building out a dockside scene or a fishing village, check the other numbered sculpts in this series for a range of complementary poses.
This miniature suits adventurers who:
- Need a believable, characterful NPC for a harbour, coastal, or river town setting
- Are running seafaring, nautical, or pirate-adjacent campaigns
- Want a quest-giver or witness figure with genuine personality
- Are building a diorama or display scene set in a working village or dock
- Love painting human NPCs with expressive faces and textured clothing
Encounter Hook
The party arrives at the fishing village of Gull's Maw to find the harbour unusually quiet — every boat still tied up at first light. Old Benwick stands at the end of the pier, both hands raised, shouting at something beneath the water's surface. When they reach him, he turns with wild eyes and says the nets came up empty for the third morning running, and this time they came up with something extra: a message, written in a language no one here can read. He thrusts it toward the nearest adventurer and takes a long step back.
