  • ✔ Compatible with D&D, Pathfinder, and all tabletop RPGs

The Fairy Dragon is one of the most disarming creatures in any Dungeon Master's arsenal — small enough to be dismissed as a curiosity, dangerous enough to ruin an adventuring party's day with a well-timed euphoria breath. This sculpt from Epic Miniatures captures that contradiction brilliantly. The body is compact but muscular, layered in overlapping scales with a coiling serpentine tail that spirals beneath it in a roiling cloud base. The posture is aggressive and mid-lunge, claws splayed and jaws open, conveying the kind of ferocious energy you wouldn't expect from something so ostensibly whimsical.

What really sets this sculpt apart is the wing treatment. Two pairs of wings spread dramatically from the spine — the rear pair broad and rounded like an oversized insect's, with a leathery membrane and ridge veining clearly defined across the surface. The front pair are narrower and more batlike, with webbed spars fanning outward. Together they give the impression of furious, buzzing flight arrested mid-dive, which makes for a genuinely eye-catching centrepiece on the table — and an equally rewarding subject on the painting desk.

The decorative cloud base adds height and dynamism, lifting the creature off the ground entirely and giving painters a great opportunity to work in atmospheric colour — deep purples for a Feywild mist, sickly greens for an Underdark toxic bloom, or pale silver for a mountain-peak encounter.

A great choice for adventurers who:

  • Run Feywild campaigns and need a distinctive draconic encounter that isn't a standard wyrmling
  • Want a visually arresting large creature that rewards careful painting across scales, membranes, and cloud textures
  • Are building a display collection that showcases the wilder corners of D&D's bestiary
  • Need a trickster BBEG familiar or a mischievous neutral creature to complicate a wilderness encounter

Encounter Hook

The party follows a stolen trinket into a moonlit glade, only to find it balanced on the nose of a Fairy Dragon perched atop a mossy stone — wings fanned wide, eyes glinting with unmistakable glee. It doesn't attack immediately. It waits to see what they'll do. That's the worst part.
