This armoured skeleton warrior captures the precise moment before the killing blow — body twisted low, bony legs spread wide in a fighter's stance, and a massive serrated greataxe hauled back over one shoulder ready to cleave through the living. The sculpt is full of character: exposed ribs and skeletal limbs contrast sharply with the heavy spiked pauldrons, ornate breastplate adorned with a skull motif, and pointed horned helm that marks this as no mere shambling undead — this was once a warrior of rank. Skull decorations embellish the axe haft and armour alike, hinting at a darker patron or fell purpose behind the rising.
The pose itself rewards painters who love contrast — the bare bone of the legs and hands against the heavily detailed armour gives you a natural split between washes and drybrushing for the skeleton sections and more deliberate layering work for the plate. A dark iron scheme with oxidised verdigris, or bleached bone armour with rusted fittings, would both bring this piece to life spectacularly on the table.
Whether you're fielding this as a named champion in your undead warband, a mid-tier threat guarding a crypt entrance, or a personal player character risen from death and serving a lich lord, the sculpt has the presence to carry any of those roles.
This miniature is particularly well suited to adventurers who:
- Are building undead armies or horde encounters for their campaign
- Need a distinctive skeleton champion to lead lesser undead into battle
- Want a characterful Revenant, Death Knight, or warrior-undead PC sculpt
- Enjoy painting contrasting textures — bone, aged metal, and tattered armour
- Are collecting display-quality undead for a graveyard or crypt diorama
Encounter Hook: As the party descends into the Tomb of the Shattered Crown, the ceremonial chamber doors grind open to reveal a lone armoured skeleton, axe raised in salute — or warning. It does not move to attack. It simply waits. The inscription above the door, the wizard realises, translates as: "The last guardian falls only when the crown is restored." They didn't bring the crown.
