The Ettercap is one of those creatures that sits precisely at the intersection of unsettling and thrilling — a web-spinning predator that is neither insect nor humanoid, but something nastier than both. Ella's Arcanum Minis has captured that quality with sharp conviction here: a hulking, crouching figure with a spined, warty head, a bloated torso, and mismatched limbs that combine crustacean-like claws on one side with splayed, grasping fingers on the other. It looks mid-stalk — weight forward, one taloned foot raised, utterly at home in the dark.

The sculpt rewards a painter's attention. The contrast between the smooth, swollen belly and the rough, spiked cranium gives you natural texture variation to work with, while the deeply articulated claws on the left arm are a joy to highlight. Whether you're going for a naturalistic forest-floor palette — muddy greens, bark browns, yellowed chitinous claws — or something more Underdark and otherworldly, this sculpt has the surface detail to carry it. The open-mawed expression, ringed with multiple forward-pointing fangs, makes the creature's intent unmistakably clear.

This is a solid centrepiece for any encounter built around ambush, entrapment, or the creeping dread of a monster that makes the terrain itself dangerous.

Adventurers who'll love this miniature:

  • Dungeon Masters running wilderness hunts, forest ambushes, or web-filled dungeon zones
  • D&D 5e players who want a tactically interesting creature with memorable visual presence
  • Miniature painters drawn to organic textures, chitinous surfaces, and multi-tone naturalistic schemes
  • Collectors building out a bestiary of underrated but lore-rich D&D monsters

Encounter Hook

The village children have gone missing one by one over a fortnight, and the forest road is now thick with silvery threads the locals can't explain. The party tracks the strands to a hollow oak — and finds the Ettercap waiting inside, surrounded by silk-wrapped shapes that are mercifully still moving.
