Description

The forest holds its breath — and then, from between the pines, a young hind lifts her head, ears pricked, sensing something on the wind that the party has not yet noticed.

  • ✔ Supplied unpainted and ready to prime
  • ✔ Compatible with D&D, Pathfinder, and all tabletop RPGs

This is pose 4 of The Toadstool Weaver's Elk range, and it's a beautifully observed sculpt. Rather than the thunder of a full-antlered bull, this piece captures a hind — young, alert, mid-stride with one foreleg raised and her head tilted upward. The fur texture across the body is rendered in fine, flowing lines, and the expression reads as genuinely cautious: she knows something is wrong. It's the kind of miniature that adds life and atmosphere to a wilderness encounter without demanding the spotlight, and that's precisely what makes it so useful.

In D&D 5e, elk are statted as beasts — but they're far more interesting than that classification suggests. A herd of elk can mark sacred Druidic territory, serve as the Animal Handling challenge that reveals a ranger's true skill, or scatter in panic the moment an Invisible Stalker moves through the tree line. This pose — alert, mid-motion — lends itself to that exact moment of tension before the encounter breaks open. Whether you're building a hunting scene, a forest hex-crawl, or a Feywild glade where nothing is quite as peaceful as it seems, this sculpt earns its place on the table.

Perfect for adventurers who:

  • Need atmospheric wildlife to populate forest, grassland, or Feywild encounters
  • Run hex-crawls or wilderness campaigns where the environment tells a story
  • Want a painting project that rewards fine brushwork on natural textures
  • Are building display dioramas or nature-themed dressing for their game table

Encounter Hook:
The party is tracking a wounded owlbear through the Thornwood when they spot a single hind standing stock-still in the middle of the path ahead — head up, one leg raised, staring not at them, but at something just beyond the ridge to the north. She doesn't bolt. She doesn't move at all. The woods on either side are completely silent.

Details

Supplied at 32mm scale. Available with or without a plain black base — the base ships unattached and can be fixed with a small amount of glue. The sculpt arrives with supports removed and fully cured, ready for priming and painting or use straight from the box. As with all hand-finished miniatures, minor surface marks are occasionally possible; these are easily addressed before painting.
