The Lykteholder is the Elderwood Draugr in its most unsettling form: a towering, gaunt undead figure whose skull has long since given way to a crown of bare, branching antlers, from which hang clusters of iron lanterns. Its exposed ribcage and sinew-wrapped frame speak of a body hollowed by centuries, yet it moves with terrible purpose — one clawed hand dangling loosely, the other gripping a large lantern as though guiding lost souls to some dreadful destination. A belt of skulls adorns its waist, and its lower body is wrapped in ragged wood-grain robes that blend disturbingly with bark and root. This is not merely an undead enemy — it is a guardian of the ancient places, a remnant of northern myth given horrible form.
Part of the Shadow Over Nordheim setting from DM Stash, the Lykteholder translates beautifully from dark Norse folklore into tabletop horror. The sculpt rewards painters who enjoy OSL (object source lighting) work, with those lanterns begging for a warm amber glow against cold, ashen flesh. Equally at home on a display shelf or a battle map, this piece is as much a centrepiece as it is a game piece.
Perfect for adventurers who:
- Run Norse, Viking, or dark winter wilderness campaigns
- Need a memorable undead boss encounter or wandering horror
- Want a display-worthy centrepiece with exceptional sculptural detail
- Are working on OSL or contrast-paint techniques and want a rewarding subject
- Collect undead or fey-adjacent creatures with distinctive silhouettes
Encounter Hook:
Three nights running, the village of Halvard's Crossing has watched a distant lantern moving through the treeline — always the same path, always stopping at the old burial mounds. On the fourth night, one of the watchers did not come back. The party tracks the light into the frost-bitten elder forest and finds not one lantern, but dozens, hanging from the antlers of something vast and silent that turns, very slowly, to face them.
Details
Supplied at 32mm scale. The model and scenic base are separate pieces and can be attached with superglue — the base features rocky, frost-dusted terrain that complements the figure's pose. The Lykteholder's antler crown is a large and detailed structure; handle with care during assembly. Arrives unprimed and unpainted, ready for your brushwork.
