Rook is the kind of dwarf who needs no introduction — the cannon on his shoulder tends to handle that. This display bust captures him mid-stride, the enormous multi-ribbed barrel of his weapon resting across one meaty fist, its muzzle wide enough to swallow a halfling whole. His broad, bearded face is set with the calm determination of a soldier who has fired his gun more times than he can count and intends to keep going. Thick plaited beard, goggles pushed up into his brow, and heavy layered armour covered in Celtic knotwork detail — Rook is a dwarf built for war and shaped by it.
The sculpt is rich with characterful detail at every angle. His pauldron bears runic engravings, the riveted straps of his armour are rendered with precision, and the cannon itself is a mechanical masterpiece — banded, bolted, and bristling with engineered menace. The decorative octagonal base continues the dwarven aesthetic, with interlaced knotwork carved into its stepped plinth — a proper stage for a proper warrior.
Whether you want to paint him in stone-grey war colours, weathered bronze, or full clan regalia, Rook offers enormous surface area for OSL from that cannon barrel, freehand on the knotwork panels, and textural work across the beard and armour plating. He's a centrepiece project and he knows it.
Rook works equally well as a display piece on a painting shelf, a trophy miniature at the head of a steampunk dwarven warband, or the face of an NPC whose reputation precedes him by several hundred feet — roughly the range of that cannon.
- Adventurers who love a deep, rewarding centrepiece painting project
- Dungeon Masters wanting a commanding face for a veteran dwarven artillery officer NPC
- Collectors drawn to steampunk-inflected dwarven aesthetics with Celtic detail
- Painters looking to practise OSL, freehand knotwork, and textured beard techniques
Encounter Hook: The party arrives at the gates of Kharrath's Reach to find the entire approach scorched black — cannonball craters every twelve feet, smoking timbers, not a single enemy survivor. At the centre of the ruin stands one figure, reloading without haste: Rook, the Reach's last defender. He doesn't look up. "You're late," he says. "I saved you the gate."
