The Dwarf Drider is not a creature you typically find in any bestiary — and that rarity is precisely what makes this sculpt so compelling for Dungeon Masters and collectors alike. This is a dwarven warrior claimed by something ancient and arachnid: a broad-shouldered, braided-beard dwarf whose lower body has been entirely replaced by the thorax and eight spined legs of a massive spider. Tiny spiderlings crawl across the swollen, textured abdomen, hinting at a brood matriarch's touch. He wears a hooded cloak and scaled armour on his upper half, sword raised in a grip that speaks to muscle memory from a life lived underground — just not like this.
The sculpt carries an impressive amount of surface detail across both halves of the creature. The spider legs are thick and barbed, each one ending in a sharp point, with segmented joints that catch the eye. The abdomen is richly textured — bumpy and organic, dotted with smaller spiders pressed into the surface. The dwarven upper body is no less considered: layered armour, a flowing beard braided with care, and a face set into the grim determination of someone who has long since accepted what he has become. This is a miniature that rewards a careful painter.
On the 51mm oval base, the model has genuine presence — this is a large creature by any measure, and it fills the space with authority. Whether you're using it as an Underdark BBEG, a corrupted dwarven champion, or simply the centrepiece of a display shelf, it commands attention from every angle.
Equally well-suited to gaming and display collecting, this miniature will turn heads at the table before a single die is rolled.
A great choice for adventurers who:
- Need an unconventional Underdark boss that subverts expectations
- Are running a dwarven-hold campaign with a dark, spider-cult subplot
- Want a large creature miniature with real visual complexity
- Enjoy painting intricate textures across varied surface types — fur, chitin, armour, and organic forms all on one model
- Collect display miniatures that double as conversation pieces
Encounter Hook
The party descends into the ruins of Kharak Dûm, a dwarven forge-city swallowed by the Underdark three centuries ago. They are searching for the Ancestor Stone — a relic said to lie in the old throne hall. But the throne is already occupied. Seated amongst webs thick as rope is something that once wore dwarven armour, its braided beard still intact, its eight legs folded beneath it like a patient predator. It was the last king of Kharak Dûm. It has been waiting.
