The Duchess of Death is no common demon. She carries herself with the cold composure of a ruler — blindfolded not out of weakness, but as a declaration that sight is beneath her. Branching antler-like horns crown her head like a dark coronet, and her layered robes billow around her as though caught in a wind that exists only for her. Hands pressed together at her chest, she stands in quiet, absolute authority — the kind of authority that does not need to raise its voice.
She works equally well as a powerful Fiend aristocrat, a death cult matriarch, a cursed oracle, or a Warlock patron given physical form. Her presence at the centre of a battlemap signals to every player at the table that this encounter is not going to be straightforward.
Perfect for adventurers who:
- Want a commanding, charismatic villain for their campaign's climax
- Are building a death cult, abyssal court, or infernal nobility encounter
- Play or DM Clerics, Warlocks, or Paladins who need a worthy antagonist
- Collect display-quality fantasy miniatures alongside gaming pieces
Encounter Hook:
The party has been hired to retrieve a stolen relic from the catacombs beneath the city — but when they descend, they find the vault already open, the cultists arranged in a reverent circle, and the Duchess of Death standing at the centre, holding the relic out to them. She wants them to take it. She tells them exactly where it came from. She does not tell them what she has already done to it.
