This is Variation 01 of the Drunk Patron range from Novaminis — a barrel-chested, shirtless tavern regular caught mid-sway, one meaty hand clutching an oversized wooden tankard while the other gestures with the kind of confidence that only comes from too many rounds of cheap ale. His wide stance, lopsided posture, and thick-soled boots suggest a man who is technically still standing, but making no promises about the next five minutes. The lace-detail stitching down his leather trousers and the worn bracers on his wrists give him the look of a labourer or dockhand well past his working hours.
As an NPC, this miniature earns its keep at almost any table. He works brilliantly as the inciting incident of a tavern brawl, a local informant whose reliability is inversely proportional to his sobriety, or simply the background colour of a lively common room. His sculpt has enough personality to give Dungeon Masters something to roleplay with — the jabbing finger, the vacant grin, the unsteady weight distribution all tell a story before a single word of dialogue is spoken.
For painters, the broad surfaces of the torso offer a canvas for flushed skin tones and shadow work, while the tankard, boots, and stitched trousers provide textural variety to keep the project engaging. He paints up equally well as a grimy dockside regular or a ruddy-faced village loudmouth.
This miniature is a great choice for adventurers who:
- Run tavern-heavy campaigns and need believable background NPCs
- Want a reliable source of unintentional chaos at the start of a session
- Are building out a rowdy common room scene for a diorama or display
- Enjoy painting characterful civilian sculpts with bags of personality
Encounter Hook: The party has barely sat down at the Broken Wheel when a broad-shouldered figure lurches over, tankard sloshing, and jabs a finger directly at the ranger. "You," he announces, loud enough for the whole room to go quiet, "look exactly like the bloke who stole my horse." He's wrong — but he's very, very committed to being right.
