This is the third variation of the Dragonblight Stricken Student — designated "The Progressed" — representing a host whose transformation has advanced beyond the early stages into something deeply unsettling. Where earlier forms retained a semblance of the person beneath, this one has lurched into something else entirely. The figure stoops forward in an aggressive, predatory crouch, robes shredded and barely clinging to a body that is rapidly ceasing to be humanoid. Multiple insectoid limbs have erupted from the torso — two long, segmented tentacle-arms arch above and outward, tipped with wicked claws, while additional smaller limbs claw at the air from either side. The original arms remain, distorted and elongated, fingers grasping. The head is a mass of chitin and corrupted flesh, the face a horror of fused features and spreading carapace. The base is richly detailed with bones, debris and visceral organic matter — evidence of what this creature has already consumed.
The sculpt rewards careful painting. The contrast between the remnants of academic robes — still bearing faint texture and layering detail across the back — and the grotesque biological additions beneath is a genuine compositional achievement. The segmented tentacle limbs have deep ridging ideal for washes, while the carapace sections on the head and forearms offer sharp edges that take drybrushing well. Whether you lean into sickly purples and greens for a blight-corrupted palette, or go for something more naturalistic and horrifying, this mini gives the painter a great deal to work with.
As the third in the Stricken Student series, this variation sits alongside its companions to tell a visual story of progressive corruption — display all three together for a haunting diorama, or deploy them individually as different stages of the same enemy encounter.
This mini suits adventurers who:
- Run campaigns featuring body-horror transformations, plagues, or eldritch corruption
- Need a visually distinct mid-tier aberrant enemy that reads as once-human
- Want a challenging and rewarding miniature painting project
- Are building an encounter group that shows escalating threat across stages
- Collect sculpts that hold their own as display pieces outside the gaming table
Encounter Hook: The party arrives at the academy infirmary in response to reports of missing scholars. Inside, they find the wards in disarray — and crouched over the prone form of a colleague, a figure in torn robes turns to face them. It was a student three days ago. Now it is something else entirely, and the tendons in those new limbs are already tensing.
