This is the Progressed stage of the Dragonblight Stricken Student — a figure mid-transformation, caught somewhere between the scholar he was and the corrupted horror he is becoming. One clawed hand reaches skyward, fingers splayed as necrotic energy crackles at his command, while the other grips an ornate staff topped with a swirling draconic finial, its base curved into a wicked crescent. His wide-brimmed hat still sits at a rakish angle — a last remnant of academic pretension — though the face beneath it is sunken, gaunt, and wrong. Tattered robes hang in strips about skeletal legs, and draconic scale-patterned fabric wraps his torso and shoulders like a second skin beginning to claim him.
The sculpt captures exceptional motion — one leg raised mid-stride, robes billowing behind him, every fold and fray rendered with genuine precision. The textured rubble base grounds the piece without overpowering it, making it equally compelling on a D&D encounter map or a display shelf. This is variation 01 of the Stricken Student range; if you are building out the full arc of corruption, look for the other stages alongside this one.
As an unpainted piece, he offers a rewarding canvas: OSL (object-source lighting) opportunities from the staff's flame and the raised casting hand, a natural transition from scholar-grey robes to sickly necrotic pallor, and subtle draconic scale textures that reward careful layering or a well-placed contrast paint.
This miniature suits adventurers who:
- Need a compelling spellcaster villain for a dragonblight or draconic corruption arc
- Want an undead sorcerer NPC that tells a visual story at a glance
- Are running campaigns touching on forbidden arcane knowledge or dragon cults
- Enjoy painting dynamic mid-cast poses with strong OSL and texture work
- Are collecting the full Stricken Student transformation sequence
Encounter Hook
The party tracked the missing scholar to the ruins of a draconic temple on the outskirts of the city. They expected to find a frightened student. Instead, they find him standing at the altar, one hand raised to the cracked ceiling, reciting incantations in a language no living mouth should be able to form — while the bones of the excavation team knit themselves together behind him. He turns at the sound of their approach. His eyes are the wrong colour entirely.
