The Draconic Demon Amethyst is a creature of two bloodlines and zero mercy. Standing upright with broad draconic wings spread wide behind it, this miniature commands presence the moment it hits the table. Scaled legs, a serpentine tail coiling behind it, and a horned skull-crested head mark it unmistakably as something descended from — or perhaps twisted by — dragonkind. Its flowing robes and leather belt speak to a calculated intelligence rather than brute savagery, and the heavy spiked staff it clutches across its body suggests it chooses when to unleash violence, and does so with deliberate intent.
The sculpt rewards painters who enjoy layering contrasts: smooth membrane across those leathery wings against the textured scales of the legs and tail, the heavy cloth folds of the robe against the sharp geometry of the staff's spiked head. Whether you render it in deep amethyst purples with ink washes to pick out the wing veins, or go for something more sinister in black and shadow, this piece has the surface detail to hold whatever direction you take it.
As a BBEG or powerful named fiend encounter, it carries the weight of something that has outlasted empires. As an elite warlock patron made manifest, it's the moment the party realises the bargain they struck was never in their favour.
Well suited to adventurers who:
- Need a commanding draconic fiend to anchor a major encounter
- Are building out an Abyssal or Nine Hells campaign with distinct, characterful villains
- Want a centrepiece figure that doubles as a serious painting project
- Play or DM for Warlocks and want a patron that can step into the room
Encounter Hook
The party follows the trail of missing Cult of the Dragon acolytes deep into an obsidian-walled sanctum beneath the city. At the altar, robes pooled around its scaled feet, the Draconic Demon Amethyst turns to face them — staff raised, wings spreading to fill the chamber — and speaks the Warlock's name with a familiarity that makes the rest of the table go very, very quiet.
