The doppelganger is one of D&D's most unsettling creatures — a shapeshifter that lives in the seams of society, wearing borrowed faces and borrowed names. This sculpt from Epic Miniatures captures the monster mid-flight: crouched low in a tight running stance, one arm swinging forward with a broad-bladed short sword, the other drawn back in a clenched fist. There's real urgency in the pose — the sinuous, hairless body coiled with momentum, the blank ovoid face utterly expressionless even as the creature bolts for the exit or lunges for a target.
The detailing rewards a painter's eye. Baggy wrapped trousers give way to bound ankles and clawed, digitigrade feet — inhuman enough to unsettle, humanoid enough to have passed unnoticed until now. Spiked shoulder protrusions break the silhouette in an eerie way, and the ornately engraved belt buckle hints at a life spent imitating people of taste. A curved hunting knife is tucked at the hip alongside a short bow slung across the back, completing the picture of a creature that can adapt its approach as readily as it adapts its face.
This is a multipart sculpt with both a plain base and a decorative base option available, and it comes in both supported and unsupported variants so you can choose whichever suits your preferred workflow.
Works beautifully as a one-shot reveal villain, a recurring infiltrator the party slowly grows suspicious of, or a striking display piece in its own right — that running pose has genuine life to it off the table as well as on.
Adventurers who will love this mini:
- Dungeon Masters building urban intrigue campaigns full of false identities and paranoia
- Fans of shapeshifter encounters where the monster's reveal is half the drama
- Painters who want a dynamic, mid-action sculpt with clean surfaces and strong silhouette
- Display collectors drawn to expressive, characterful humanoid sculpts
Encounter Hook
The party's contact in the Merchants' Guild hasn't shown up to the meeting — but someone who looks exactly like her has, and they've just knocked over a lantern and bolted for the rear exit with a stolen ledger tucked under one arm. Roll for initiative.
