Dolphins in the world of tabletop RPGs are far more than charming sea creatures — they are the companions of sea druids, the messengers of water deities, the watchful guides that lead shipwrecked sailors toward shore, and, occasionally, the unexpected allies that tip a naval ambush in the party's favour. This sculpt captures that energy perfectly: a dolphin mid-leap, body arched in fluid motion above a detailed seabed base adorned with rounded boulders, sea anemones, and clusters of kelp. It is a piece with real presence, whether you're running a seafaring campaign or simply want a slice of the ocean on your display shelf.
The sculpt's clean, smooth lines make it a genuine pleasure to paint — the broad flanks offer excellent surface area for wet-blending oceanic greys, blues, and the subtle warm tones of a dolphin's underbelly, while the textured base gives painters a chance to experiment with washes, mossy greens, and sandy dry-brushing. The vertical support column integrates neatly into the base composition, lending the whole piece a dynamic, airborne quality without feeling fragile.
Whether you're using this as a druid's animal companion, a familiar, a wild-shaped form, a random encounter in coastal waters, or simply a centrepiece for a nautical display — this dolphin earns its place.
Particularly well suited for adventurers who:
- Run seafaring, coastal, or aquatic-themed D&D or Pathfinder campaigns
- Need an animal companion or druid wild-shape token for the gaming table
- Want a display piece that rewards careful, layered painting
- Are building out a nautical or oceanic scatter and creature collection
- Love creatures that bring a sense of wonder and movement to the tabletop
Encounter Hook: The party's longship has been becalmed for three days when a single dolphin surfaces alongside the hull, chittering insistently and circling. A druid who speaks with animals learns it has been sent by a sea goddess to warn of a kraken lurking two leagues ahead — but the creature also wants something in return, and it will not leave until negotiations are complete.
