The Displacer Fiend is everything wrong about predators distilled into a single aberrant form. Its front half is unmistakably wolf — snarling muzzle, heavy clawed paws, a mane of coarse, spiked fur bristling with primal menace. But nature's logic stops there. From its back erupts a crown of sinuous, barbed tendrils — six whipping appendages tipped with hooked fins and leathery membranes — each capable of lashing out before any prey can react. Coiling from its haunches is a muscular tail that blooms into something deeply wrong: a gaping, circular maw ringed with row upon row of inward-curving teeth, like a wound that wants to eat.

Monster Atlas have rendered every detail of this creature's unsettling anatomy with precision. The wolf body is sculpted with texture and weight — the fur raised along the spine, claws splayed on the ground, lips peeled back in mid-snarl. The tendrils have a biological plausibility that makes them worse, each one distinctly jointed and barbed. The lamprey tail is the centrepiece of the horror, open wide and unmistakably hungry. This is a miniature that stops people mid-session and makes them look twice — exactly as the creature would want.

Whether you're running it as a classic D&D Displacer Beast with a fiendish twist, a Far Realm aberration, or a unique homebrew predator from the deep wilderness, the Displacer Fiend commands the table.

A great choice for adventurers who:

  • Want an aberrant predator that reads immediately as dangerous and deeply strange
  • Are running wilderness ambushes, Underdark hunts, or Far Realm incursions
  • Need a creature that will make players genuinely uneasy before initiative is even rolled
  • Love painting textured organic sculpts with strong focal points
  • Collect display-worthy monster miniatures that reward close attention

Encounter Hook: The caravan has been losing livestock for three nights — always a clean kill, always the tracks circling without ever closing in. Tonight the ranger notices the shadows between the trees move independently of the firelight, and something that looks almost like a wolf steps into the clearing, trailing six tendrils and wearing a smile full of too many teeth.
