Description

It doesn't flee like the others — this one holds its ground, bone clenched in its jaws, eyes fixed on you with an intelligence that makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand up.

  • ✔ 32mm scale resin miniature, printed fresh to order in the UK
  • ✔ Supplied unpainted and ready to prime
  • ✔ Compatible with D&D, Pathfinder, and all tabletop RPGs
  • ✔ Equally at home on the gaming table or the display shelf

The dire rat is a staple of the dungeon ecosystem, but this sculpt from Witchsong Miniatures gives it a genuine menace that elevates it well beyond a simple low-CR filler encounter. Crouched low on a cracked stone base, this beast is gnawing on what appears to be a bone-hilted implement — a trophy, a tool, or simply a warning to those who disturb its lair. The thick, matted fur texture across its haunched body and the long, sinuous tail curling upward behind it give the sculpt real weight and character. This is not a rat that scurries. This is a rat that waits.

Whether you're running a sewer-level dungeon crawl, a plague-ridden city underbelly, or an Underdark encounter where even the vermin have grown dangerous, this miniature earns its place on the table. It works equally well as a solo predator, a familiar gone feral, or part of a swarm that your players will remember far longer than they should. Collectors and painters will appreciate the deeply textured fur and detailed base — this is a miniature that rewards a careful brush as much as it rewards a dramatic reveal.

Perfect for adventurers who:

  • Need a threatening beast encounter that doesn't read as a throwaway fight
  • Are building sewer, dungeon, or Underdark-themed encounters
  • Want a low-level monster that actually looks dangerous on the table
  • Are painting collectors drawn to richly textured creature sculpts
  • Run dark, gritty campaigns where even the wildlife has an agenda

Encounter Hook:
The party's contact was supposed to meet them in the grain cellar at midnight. They find him — or what's left of him — and a single enormous rat sitting motionless atop the crates, a gnawed bone held between its forepaws, watching the door as though it knew exactly when they would arrive.

Details

Supplied at 32mm tabletop scale. The base is included and attaches easily with a small amount of glue. The model arrives cleaned and fully cured, ready for priming and painting — or straight onto the table if you prefer your beasts grey and grim.
