The dire bat is one of those creatures that earns its place at the table through sheer physical menace. These are not the small, flitting things that haunt churchyards — these are apex aerial predators, built from muscle, membrane, and hunger. Yasashii Kyojin Studios have sculpted them with an impressive naturalistic ferocity: the first pose captures a beast in a low, aggressive crouch — head thrust forward, jaws parted wide, enormous wings half-furled as it sizes up its prey. The second is the dive — wings swept back and arced dramatically overhead, the creature plunging head-first toward its target. Two poses, two moments in the same deadly encounter.
The sculpts reward a close look. Coarse fur textures cover the torso and neck, contrasting with the smooth, vein-traced membrane of the wings. The clawed wing-fingers and raking foot-talons are crisply defined. Both heads carry that particular bat quality — flat-snouted, wide-eared, and deeply unsettling at this scale. Whether you're running a Underdark ambush, a cursed mountain pass, or a vampire lord's aerial honour guard, these two cover both grounded threat and aerial assault in a single bundle.
Well suited to adventurers who:
- Need more than one pose for a multi-creature encounter — swarm mechanics, flanking, and dive attacks all become more convincing with varied sculpts
- Are running Underdark, cave, or mountain-region campaigns and want atmospheric, lore-appropriate wildlife
- Want a pair of display pieces that read as genuinely threatening on a shelf — these are not decorative creatures
- Are looking for value across two sculpts from a single range
Encounter Hook:
The party is halfway across the rope bridge spanning the chasm when the ranger's torch catches the movement — two dire bats roosting on the far anchor post, heads lifting in unison. There is no room to turn around. The bridge sways. Initiative is rolled.
This bundle includes two dire bat miniatures — the crouching ground-pose variant and the swooping dive-pose variant — both scaled to 32mm. Supplied unpainted and ready for priming. As with all our miniatures, each piece is quality-checked before dispatch; minor marks from support removal are possible on fine details but are easily tidied up with a hobby knife or light file.
