The Dimetrodon Roar is a large-scale beast miniature that commands immediate attention. Captured mid-bellow with its jaws thrown wide and rows of serrated teeth on full display, this sculpt conveys raw predatory aggression. The sail of elongated dorsal spines fans dramatically across its back, each spine rendered with crisp detail — from the textured skin at the base to the sharp, tapering tips. Overlapping scales cover the body in tight, precise rows, giving the flanks and tail a genuinely reptilian weight. The long, spike-ridged tail sweeps out behind it, and the clawed feet are planted with a heaviness that suggests something very large about to lunge.
Mounted on a large 51mm oval base, this is a proper large creature by D&D encounter standards — the kind of beast that takes up real table space and makes players sit up straight. Whether you're running a lost-world adventure, a prehistoric jungle crawl, or a wilderness encounter table that needs a genuine threat, the Dimetrodon Roar earns its place. As a display piece, the sail and open jaw give painters a wealth of surfaces to work with — from earthy hide tones to vibrant sail colouration.
Suits adventurers who:
- Run wilderness, jungle, or prehistoric-themed campaigns
- Need a large beast encounter that looks genuinely threatening on the table
- Want a centrepiece painting project with bold sculptural detail
- Are building out a display collection of prehistoric or exotic creatures
Encounter Hook: The expedition into the Sunken Reaches was supposed to be straightforward — map the ruins, retrieve the artefact, leave before nightfall. But the sound that splits the air from somewhere between the fern canopy and the river bank is nothing the party has heard in any bestiary. Something enormous has been following the trail of blood from the ranger's wounded pack animal, and it has just decided the party is the easier meal. A Dimetrodon, hide scarred from older hunts and sail flushed deep red with aggression, steps out of the undergrowth and opens its jaws wide.
