This Dimetrodon sculpt from Epic Miniatures captures the ancient predator in a low, prowling stance — jaws parted and ready, all four clawed feet planted wide on its 51mm large base. The enormous sail along its back is the centrepiece of the piece, rendered with individual spine-to-spine webbing, deep ribbing, and a scattering of jagged secondary spines where the sail meets the body. Every scale across the flanks, shoulders, and snout has been individually textured, giving painters a wealth of surface detail to work with — from the overlapping belly scales to the knobbled ridgework above the eyes.
The head is turned slightly, jaws open to reveal rows of serrated teeth, lending the pose a sense of active threat rather than static display. The tail trails long behind the body, lined with dorsal spines, making this a substantially wide miniature that will command real presence on any battlemat. As a Large creature on a 51mm base, it fits naturally into encounters that call for dinosaurs, primordial beasts, or exotic apex predators from lost jungles and forgotten ruins.
Whether you're running a Chult expedition, a lost-world wilderness arc, or simply want a genuinely distinctive creature to drop on your table, this Dimetrodon delivers the scale and the menace to make that moment land.
Well-suited for adventurers who:
- Run dinosaur or prehistoric beast encounters in jungle or wasteland settings
- Want a Large creature with detailed, paintable surface texture
- Are building a Chult, Isle of Dread, or primordial-world campaign
- Collect prehistoric and exotic creature miniatures for display
- Need a visually distinctive creature that reads immediately as dangerous
Encounter Hook: The party has been tracking what the local hunters call the "Spine-Back" for three days through dense undergrowth. When they finally find it, it's already between them and the only bridge back across the gorge — jaws open, sail fanned wide, entirely unbothered by their torches.
