The Deer Horror Mid Corruption is a deeply unsettling sculpt that sits in that uncanny space between recognisable animal and something altogether wrong. The creature's silhouette is immediately readable as a deer — four legs, branching antlers, a long neck — but every detail undermines that familiarity. The ribcage is fully exposed, its chest cavity hollow and cavernous. The antlers have grown into twisted, interlocking arches of pale wood, almost architectural in their scale. Clusters of fungal or cyst-like growths erupt along the shoulders and the base of the neck, suggesting a corruption still spreading outward from within.
The pose itself tells a story: the creature's head is bowed low, snout pressed to the ground where a smaller skeleton lies scattered — the remains of a previous creature, perhaps prey, perhaps something worse. The ground scatter on the base (broken stone fragments, a spine of tiny vertebrae) reinforces the sense that this thing has been here a while, leaving evidence of its presence behind it.
This is the Mid Corruption variant, suggesting a creature caught in the process of transformation — not yet fully given over to whatever darkness has claimed it, but far past saving. That narrative specificity makes it a compelling encounter centrepiece: something the party might recognise too late as a former animal, now weaponised by blight or fey corruption.
This miniature suits adventurers who:
- Run wilderness horror encounters or blight-themed forest campaigns
- Want a creature that signals environmental corruption before the party reaches its source
- Use the Beast or Monstrosity stat blocks and need a more unnerving visual
- Are building a corrupted nature diorama or display centrepiece
- Love the folk horror or dark fey aesthetic — think Ravenloft's wild places or the Shadowfell's edges
Encounter Hook
The village herbalist swears the old stag she's watched for twenty years wandered past her window three nights ago — except its ribs were showing through the skin, and it paused to look at her with eyes that had no pupils left. She didn't move until dawn. Now the livestock are disappearing, one each night, and something with oversized antlers has been seen circling the tree line at dusk.
Details
Sculpted by Mia Kay M3DM, this miniature is produced at 32mm scale on a detailed oval base featuring scattered bones and stone rubble. The sculpt features exceptional surface complexity — the exposed rib structure, the textured antler growth, and the individual cyst clusters all reward careful painting. Supplied unpainted and unassembled; the base integrates fully with the model. Equally compelling as a gaming piece or as a display model for collectors who favour creature horror subjects.
Pairs well with corrupted beasts and wilderness forest encounters — or explore more from Mia Kay M3DM.
