The Death Dog is one of the more quietly unsettling entries in the monster manual — not a demon, not a beast, but something in between. Bred in the blasted wastelands beyond mortal reckoning, these twin-headed hounds are used as guard animals by powerful fiends and cult leaders who value their disease-carrying bite as much as their relentless tracking instincts. Monster Atlas has captured that duality brilliantly: two snarling wolfish heads with jagged, overlapping fangs and glowing amber eyes, rising from a single muscular body crowned with a ridge of deep reddish-brown spines. The sculpt leans into the creature's wrongness — the musculature too dense, the necks too thick, the expressions too aware.

This digital render showcases the sculpt across three angles, displaying an unpainted grey finish that reveals every wrinkle of skin, every serrated tooth, and the sweeping spinal frill in sharp detail. An excellent candidate for a two-tone grey-and-red paint scheme, or an ink wash to bring out the texture across that powerful frame.

Well-suited for adventurers who:

  • Run D&D 5e or OSR encounters featuring fiendish guard beasts or cult-bound creatures
  • Want a characterful Beast or Fiend miniature with strong table presence
  • Enjoy painting detailed monster sculpts with layered textures and pronounced features
  • Collect monster miniatures for display as well as play

Encounter Hook:
The party has tracked a Zhentarim slaver's caravan deep into the Thornwood — but before they reach the wagons, they hear it: not one growl, but two, perfectly overlapping, from somewhere just off the path to the left. Then, from the right, the same sound again. The Death Dogs don't bark before they attack. They never do.

Details

Supplied at 32mm scale. The model and its decorative base are separate pieces, designed to be attached with superglue — the base has been sculpted to complement the pose, so the two work best together. As with all our miniatures, each piece is quality checked before dispatch, though minor marks from support removal may occasionally be present and are straightforward to clean up before priming.
