Darkmantle by Monster Atlas
Description
Something drops from the cave ceiling — not stalactite, not shadow, but a creature of pure alien hunger, its four yellow eyes already fixed on you before you even knew it was there.

- ✔ Supplied unpainted and ready to prime
- ✔ Compatible with D&D, Pathfinder, and all tabletop RPGs
- ✔ Equally at home on the gaming table or the display shelf
The Darkmantle is one of the Underdark's most unsettling ambush predators — not through brute force, but through patience and the creeping dread of something that doesn't quite look like anything else. This sculpt from Monster Atlas captures that wrongness beautifully: a fleshy, tentacled bell of webbed membrane rising to a sharp organic spire, four bulbous yellow eyes staring out from beneath it, and trailing limbs that curl and grip across a craggy rock formation base. There's a genuine alien quality to the silhouette — part cephalopod, part cave horror, entirely unsettling.
The sculpt rewards both gaming and display. On the table it reads instantly as a threat even from across the room; on a shelf it holds its own as a centrepiece of Underdark or aberration-themed collections. The textured skin, webbed mantle, and knobbly stone base all carry excellent surface detail that responds well to ink washes and contrast paints.
Built for adventurers who:
- Run Underdark campaigns and want encounters that genuinely unsettle their players
- Collect D&D 5e monster miniatures and want accurate, evocative sculpts
- Enjoy painting aberrations — this one rewards layered skin tones and glowing eye effects
- Want a cave ambush piece that doubles as a striking display model
Encounter Hook:
The party has been tracking the missing miners for two days when they find the first one — suspended from the ceiling in a web of fleshy tendrils, still breathing, eyes wide and unseeing. Four yellow points of light blink in the darkness above them. Then the Darkness spell drops, and the screaming starts.
Details
Supplied at 32mm scale. The model and decorative rock base are separate pieces — a small amount of super glue will secure them. The base and model are designed to complement one another, and the creature genuinely benefits from being displayed with its base attached. Arrives ready for priming and painting, or use straight from the box as an unpainted tabletop piece. Minor support marks may occasionally be present and are easily tidied up with a hobby knife or fine sandpaper.
