Description

Something squat and wretched shuffles out of the dark — its hood thrown back to reveal a maw of jagged teeth, and its staff crowned with a grinning skull wreathed in cursed leaves.

  • ✔ 32mm scale resin miniature, printed fresh to order in the UK
  • ✔ Supplied unpainted and ready to prime
  • ✔ Compatible with D&D, Pathfinder, and all tabletop RPGs
  • ✔ Equally at home on the gaming table or the display shelf

The Darkling Fiend is one of those creatures that unsettles precisely because it doesn't look like much at first glance — squat, hunched, swathed in ragged robes. Then the hood shifts, and that vast, tooth-crammed maw opens wide, and the illusion of smallness evaporates entirely. This sculpt by Epic Miniatures captures that moment of horrible revelation with real character: a broad, low-slung body leaning slightly forward on a tall bone-topped staff, one clawed hand hanging loose and ready, the other gripping that totem with practised ease.

The staff itself is a painting project in its own right — a crude wooden pole capped with a large angular skull, framed by a spray of detailed feather-like leaves. Paired with the creature's own gaping death's-head face, it makes for a silhouette that will stand out immediately on any battlemat. The layered robes and cloth wrappings read well in the hand, with enough fold definition to take a wash and drybrush beautifully.

Whether you run this as a low-CR shock encounter for fresh adventurers, a cunning fiendish emissary, or a warlock's otherworldly patron given physical form, this miniature brings genuine menace to the table — and earns its place on a display shelf just as readily.

Well suited for adventurers who:

  • Need a distinctive fiendish minion or cult shaman for an Underdark or Abyssal encounter
  • Want a warlock-adjacent NPC with real visual presence
  • Are building out a fiend warband or dark ritual scene
  • Love a miniature with a striking, unusual silhouette that paints up with character

Encounter Hook: The party tracks a missing merchant's wagon to a crossroads shrine. Crouched over a fresh sacrifice, its skull-staff planted in the earth and its maw still wet, the Darkling Fiend turns to regard them with hollow eyes — and behind it, three more shadows begin to stir.
