Description

The smell reaches the party before the stall does — salt, scales, and something that might be shark — and behind the chopping block, a broad-shouldered merchant raises his cleaver with a grin that suggests he enjoys his work a little too much.

  • ✔ Resin terrain piece, printed fresh to order in the UK
  • ✔ Supplied unpainted — primes and paints easily
  • ✔ Compatible with standard 28mm–32mm miniature scales
  • ✔ Works on the gaming table and as part of a display diorama

This is the Dark Market Fish Monger from Great Grimoire's Great Folks II collection — a richly detailed NPC terrain set that brings a medieval harbour market stall to vivid life on your table. The central figure is a heavyset, jovial fishmonger mid-swing with a hefty cleaver, a scaled fish laid out before him on a well-worn trestle table. Candles, a hanging lantern, and an array of cutting tools crowd the work surface alongside the day's catch. To his left, a barrel brimming with fish — complete with a starfish emblem pressed into the wood — adds instant dockside atmosphere. To his right, a market cart loaded with the day's haul, including what appears to be a small shark fin breaking the surface, anchors the scene with wonderful storytelling detail.

Whether you're running a coastal city encounter, a busy town square scene, or a shady back-alley market, this set drops into your session with immediate narrative weight. Equally at home on a painted display shelf, it rewards careful brushwork on the fish scales, candle wax, and woodgrain textures throughout.

Well-suited for adventurers who:

  • Run town or harbour district encounters and want believable NPC merchants
  • Need scatter terrain that doubles as a focal point for social encounters
  • Love painting highly textured, character-rich pieces for their display collection
  • Are building a busy market scene for a diorama or battle map

Encounter Hook:
The party has been tipped off that the fishmonger at the Dark Market stall is moving more than mackerel — a package was seen changing hands beneath the counter just before last bell. As they approach, he raises his cleaver and greets them with that wide, unreadable smile. Is he a fence for the thieves' guild, or just a man who really loves his work?
