Description

The door had not always been sealed with bones — but whatever lay beyond it had decided, long ago, that roots were not enough, and so the tendrils came, and then the skulls, and now nothing passes through without permission.

  • ✔ Resin terrain piece, printed fresh to order in the UK
  • ✔ Supplied unpainted — primes and paints easily
  • ✔ Compatible with standard 28mm–32mm miniature scales
  • ✔ Works on the gaming table and as part of a display diorama

This dark gate is a dungeon centrepiece that demands attention the moment it hits the table. An arched stone doorway — mortared blocks, aged and cracked — is entirely choked by a mass of writhing, rope-thick tendrils that coil and twist across the door beneath. They are not decorative. They are alive, or they were, or something made them that way. Six grinning skulls are set into the frame: two at the keystone of the arch, one on each column at mid-height, and two more flanking the base steps — sentinels that have been watching far longer than your party has been adventuring.

Two variants are shown in the product images. The first is the skull-adorned version: a raised stepped plinth supports the gateway, skulls punctuate the frame at key intervals, and the tendrils spiral and cross in an almost deliberate pattern, as though something beneath the wood has been pulling them into formation for centuries. The second variant strips the skulls away entirely, leaving a cleaner stone arch still writhing with the same impossible vegetation — a slightly more ambiguous, flexible piece that works equally well in a forest ruin, an abandoned temple, or a Shadowfell crossing.

Both versions are supplied unpainted and ready to prime. The sculpt holds detail exceptionally well: individual strands within the tendril bundles are distinct, the stonework shows convincing weathering and block definition, and the skull faces have clear expression even at tabletop distance. Painted up, this piece will anchor an entire encounter — left grey, it still reads clearly on the table during play.

Suits adventurers who are:

  • Running dungeon crawls, crypt delves, or Underdark expeditions that need a dramatic focal point
  • Building modular terrain collections with reusable set-dressing pieces
  • Crafting Ravenloft, Shadowfell, or dark forest encounters with atmosphere to spare
  • Painters looking for a detailed, characterful terrain project with strong visual impact
  • Dungeon Masters who want a physical prop that tells the party something has gone very wrong before anyone rolls Initiative

Encounter Hook

The party has been tracking a cult's movements through the lower city sewers for three sessions. The trail ends here — a gate that should not exist this far underground, its frame wrapped in tendrils that pulse faintly in the torchlight. The skulls are fresh. One of them is wearing a ring the rogue recognises. The door is not locked. It is waiting.
