Cursed Lich by Epic Miniatures

Once a sovereign of living men, now a sovereign of the damned — the Cursed Lich strides forward on skeletal legs, crown still seated upon its desiccated skull, a greatsword levelled at any fool brave enough to contest its eternal reign.

This sculpt by Epic Miniatures captures an undead monarch caught mid-stride in grim purpose. The figure wears tattered robes that sweep and billow around armoured greaves, suggesting the remnant dignity of a king whose mortality was simply an inconvenience he chose to discard. Spiked pauldrons frame a torso layered in chains and heavy medallions — symbols of oaths made to powers darker than any living court. The crown, angular and cruel, sits perfectly atop a fleshless skull whose jaw is locked open in what might once have been a command, or perhaps a curse that has never stopped being spoken.

The greatsword is the real centrepiece — a broad, heavily decorated blade with a cross-guard worked into an intricate sigil, held low and extended in a stance that speaks of absolute confidence. This is not a creature that rushes. It walks, and the walking is enough. The detail carries cleanly across the whole piece: the layered fabric folds, the exposed bone of the hands and face, and the chain work draped across the chest all reward a painter who wants to push washes and glazes into deep recesses.

Whether you paint this lich in cold blue-greys to evoke a frost-touched tomb, or in oxidised gold and sickly green to emphasise the corruption of a once-regal court, there is tremendous depth here for any level of painter.

Well suited to adventurers who:

• Need a credible BBEG with genuine presence at the head of an undead warband
• Are running a Ravenloft, Shadowfell, or graveyard-district campaign arc
• Want a showpiece undead villain that doubles as a display painting project
• Play or DM encounters built around fallen nobility, dark pacts, or necromantic dynasties
• Enjoy minis with enough fine detail to reward advanced painting techniques

Encounter Hook

The party descends into the vaults beneath the ruined palace expecting to find an artefact and instead finds a throne — occupied. The Cursed Lich rises from it slowly, greatsword scraping stone as it stands, and informs the adventurers in a voice like grinding crypts that the last group who came seeking its treasure now stand in the honour guard. Specifically, as skeletons. Specifically, those skeletons right behind the party.
