Description

The ground shudders before you see it — a titanic predator with jaws like a bear-trap and a ridge of razor crystal along its spine, charging through the undergrowth as though the world itself owes it a meal.

  • ✔ 32mm scale resin miniature, printed fresh to order in the UK
  • ✔ Supplied unpainted and ready to prime
  • ✔ Compatible with D&D, Pathfinder, and all tabletop RPGs
  • ✔ Equally at home on the gaming table or the display shelf

The Crystal Rex is no ordinary apex predator. Where a standard tyrannosaur relies on brute force and raw tonnage, this creature has been transformed — whether by ancient sorcery, wild magic, or the mineral-rich depths of some forgotten valley — into something altogether more terrifying. A full ridge of jagged crystal spines erupts from its neck and runs the length of its back, each shard sharp enough to shred armour and brilliant enough to catch torchlight like a chandelier built for murder.

Epic Miniatures have sculpted this beast at a Huge footprint (76.5mm base), and every millimetre earns its keep. The skin is rendered in extraordinary detail — thousands of individual scales cover the flanks and belly, while the musculature beneath reads as genuinely powerful. The Crystal Rex is captured mid-stride, one foot planted and one raised, jaws open wide in a charge that communicates speed, weight, and absolute menace. This is a creature that does not stalk — it commits.

The crystalline growths themselves are the sculpt's masterstroke. They cluster most densely at the neck and shoulders before tapering toward the tail in progressively smaller formations — giving painters a compelling textural contrast between organic reptilian hide and geometric mineral growth. Zenithal priming followed by a wash will reward you handsomely, and the crystals are practically begging for Object Source Lighting treatment.

Whether you field it as a Tyrannosaurus Rex with a magical twist, a unique apex beast for a Lost World campaign arc, or a creature corrupted by proximity to an elemental rift, the Crystal Rex earns a prominent place at the table — and an equally prominent place on the display shelf.

This sculpt works beautifully as a centrepiece encounter for high-level parties, a mount for a truly unhinged villain, or simply the answer to the question: "What if a T-Rex was also partly made of knives?"

Suited to adventurers who:

  • Run Lost World, jungle, or dinosaur-themed campaign arcs
  • Want a Huge creature that holds its own as a display piece between sessions
  • Love painting varied textures — scales, musculature, and crystalline surfaces in one sculpt
  • Need a memorable boss encounter that players will not stop talking about
  • Are building out an exotic bestiary for settings like Chult, the Savage Frontier, or a homebrew prehistoric realm

Encounter Hook: The party has been hired to escort a naturalist into the Verdant Wastes — a plateau untouched by civilisation for two thousand years. On the third day, their guide goes pale. "The crystal growth on those trees," she whispers. "Something has been rubbing against them." Before she can finish the sentence, the Crystal Rex erupts from the treeline at a full sprint, crystal spines scattering refracted light across the canopy as it bears down on the group. Roll initiative.
