Description

The sentinels of the crystal caverns do not bark or growl — they rear back, spread their armoured flanks, and release a roar that shatters stalactites from the ceiling fifty feet above.

  • ✔ 32mm scale resin miniature, printed fresh to order in the UK
  • ✔ Supplied unpainted and ready to prime
  • ✔ Compatible with D&D, Pathfinder, and all tabletop RPGs
  • ✔ Equally at home on the gaming table or the display shelf

The Crystal Guard Drake is not a dragon in the classical sense — it is something older and more territorial. This sculpt captures the beast mid-roar: rearing upright on thick, taloned hind legs, chest plates flared outward, the long whip-like tail curling behind it with clusters of hooked spines at the tip. Every surface is a study in natural armour — overlapping scales across the belly, raised nodule clusters along the neck and shoulders, and a crown of swept-back horns fanning from the skull like shattered antlers. The jaws are open wide, fangs bared, and there is nothing ambiguous about the creature's intention.

Scale-wise this is a genuinely large miniature, sitting on a 51mm base, which puts it comfortably in Large creature territory for D&D 5e and Pathfinder. The silhouette reads clearly across the table — the swept tail gives it enormous lateral presence — while up close the surface detailing rewards every painter who spends time on it. From the pebbly texture of the neck scales to the ribbed underbelly plates and the sharp ridge fins along the spine, there is no shortage of interesting surfaces to work with. A wash-and-drybrush approach will do it justice quickly; a full NMM or OSL crystal-cave colour scheme will take it somewhere extraordinary.

This is a miniature that works equally well as a roaming guardian beast in a dungeon encounter and as a display piece on a shelf — the pose has genuine dynamism and the sculpt holds up at close range.

Well suited to adventurers who:

  • Need a Large creature to serve as a dungeon guardian or territorial beast encounter
  • Are running Underdark, mountain cavern, or crystal cave campaigns
  • Want a drake or lesser dragon that feels distinct from standard chromatic or metallic dragons
  • Enjoy painting complex reptilian textures with lots of layering potential
  • Are building a display-quality centrepiece for a dragon or beast collection

Encounter Hook

The party has been following a trail of shattered blue gemstones through the tunnels for three hours when the passage widens into a vast crystalline grotto. In the centre, coiled around a formation of raw amethyst the size of a wagon, the Crystal Guard Drake lifts its head. The gemstones are not treasure — they are eggs. The Drake opens its jaws and the walls begin to crack.
