The Crystal Grick is a deeply unsettling take on one of the Underdark's most iconic ambush predators. Where a standard grick is horrifying enough — a writhing, beak-mouthed worm with grasping tentacles — this variant is something worse. Pale gemstone shards erupt from its body like growths, catching the faintest light in the darkness and giving it an almost beautiful, deadly shimmer.

The sculpt captures the creature mid-lunge: its thick, segmented worm-body coils upward from the base while four tentacle-arms — each tipped with hooked, claw-like fingers — splay outward in a reaching, predatory stance. The central maw is ringed with large, smooth crystal facets rather than flesh, suggesting this creature has absorbed or fused with the mineral depths it haunts. The textural detail across the body is exceptional, with overlapping scale-like ridges and subtle vein-like markings visible along each limb.

This is a creature that rewards careful painting — the crystal elements are perfectly structured to take gem-effect washes or OSL techniques, while the organic body sections suit deep shadow-washes and drybrushed highlights for a suitably subterranean pallor. Whether you run it as a standard grick variant, a grick alpha, or some unique aberrant horror of your own devising, it carries genuine menace on the tabletop.

A great choice for adventurers who:

  • Run Underdark campaigns featuring aberrant wildlife and natural hazards
  • Want a grick miniature that stands out from standard monster book fare
  • Enjoy painting organic textures alongside crystalline special effects
  • Need a genuinely threatening mid-encounter monster with strong visual presence
  • Collect display-worthy creature miniatures from independent sculptors

Encounter Hook: The party has been tracking a series of disappearances in a dwarven mining settlement — miners who went to work and never returned. Following the tunnels deeper, they find veins of shattered crystal lining the walls... and something that had been very still suddenly isn't. The Crystal Grick doesn't wait in the shadows. It was the shadows.
