This is no ordinary piece of scatter terrain. The Cruel Cauldron by Mia Kay M3DM depicts a wide-bellied iron cauldron overflowing with billowing vapour — and from within that roiling mass, two clawed, elongated hands claw their way toward the surface. One reaches high, fingers splayed and desperate; the other grips the cauldron's rim with the grasping urgency of something that very much does not want to go back down. The sculpt is macabre, characterful, and loaded with narrative possibility.
Whether you're staging a hag's lair, a necromancer's workroom, or an alchemical disaster gone very wrong, the Cruel Cauldron earns its place on the table. The ribbed cauldron body has a satisfying weight of detail, and the vapour clouds that spill from the top give painters a brilliant opportunity to work in OSL or ghostly greens. The textured stone base grounds the piece in a dungeon or wilderness setting without being too specific to limit use.
Well suited to adventurers who:
- Want atmospheric scatter terrain that tells a story at a glance
- Are building a hag's lair, witchcraft encounter, or necromancer's sanctum
- Love painting OSL effects, bubbling liquids, or spectral vapour
- Collect display pieces with dark fantasy character
- Need an unusual environmental hazard or cursed object prop for a TTRPG session
Encounter Hook:
The party's rogue slips into the witch's inner sanctum ahead of the others — and stops dead. The cauldron in the centre of the room is overflowing, and the hands clawing their way out of the brew are moving. A DC 14 Arcana check reveals the brew is a Soul Trap ritual, mid-cast. The witch is already on her way back. They have four rounds.
