The Crowknight Bust is a display piece that commands attention. Mounted on a decorated plinth with knotwork borders, the sculpt rises into a broad-shouldered torso clad in deeply engraved plate armour — chevron breastplate motifs, sweeping pauldrons with torn and battle-worn edges, and a layered gorget that speaks of a warrior who has endured far worse than one campaign. Above it all sits the iconic beak-masked helm, flanked by a pair of gnarled, curling ram's horns that give the Crowknight its unmistakeable silhouette. There is a single hollow eye socket at the brow of the mask — unsettling, deliberate, and thoroughly paintable.
Whether this is the visage of a fallen paladin sworn to a carrion god, a mercenary captain who traded his soul for armour that cannot be broken, or the face your players have been dreading since Session One — the Crowknight is a canvas with genuine storytelling weight. The level of surface texture across the armour's engravings and the weathered tears in the pauldrons will reward layered painting techniques and washes alike. Equally at home on a shelf as it is on the DM's side of the screen.
This miniature suits adventurers who:
- Paint display busts and want intricate armour detail to work with
- Are building a dark fantasy or gothic collector's shelf
- Need a memorable villain, death knight, or war-god champion for their campaign
- Want a large-scale painting project that doubles as genuine narrative inspiration
- Play or run campaigns with themes of plague, war, death, or crow-folk mythology
Encounter Hook:
The party enters the war-ravaged town of Gravenhollow to find every building marked with a crow's feather — a calling card, they're told, of the Carrion Judge. Perched on the broken fountain at the town square, motionless as a gargoyle, is a figure in a beaked helm and engraved plate. It does not move as they approach. When they are close enough to see the hollow eye in the mask, it speaks: "You are already in my ledger. I am simply waiting for the ink to dry."
